DJ Shazz (or Shazz Mahfudz) is one of KL’s best kept secrets. A man on a mission to take house music to the next level. He has the inherent ability to not only read the crowd but being a true artiste he tells a story in each and every set.
Growing up in New York City meant music figured heavily in Shazz's childhood. Listening to influential radio stations such as KISS-FM and WBLS-FM established a diverse frame of musical reference. In 1994 he discovered the nascent underground house scene in Kuala Lumpur, providing a launch pad for his DJing and igniting his passion for garage and deep house. But it was in 1999 in Nottingham, when he met his mentor (and subsequent DJ’ing partner) Dean Anderson, that Shazz's style was shaped into what it is today.
In addition to their weekly spot at Drop The Bomb @ The Bomb, Shazz and Dean partnered in a number of other residencies, including monthlies at The Edge, Love 2 Be @ The Mint, and Tyrant (with Craig Richards and Lee Burridge). Their numerous guest stints include DIY's Floppy Disco, Colours @ The Tunnel (Glasgow), Back 2 Basics (Leeds) and Life (Boston, US)
Shazz's solo guest appearances include Lovezoo @ The Lost Weekend, Progress (Derby), The Que Club (Birmingham) and The Sub Club (Glasgow).
His residency at Zouk KL has seen Shazz’s DJ career rise to new heights. As a senior resident at Zouk KL he is a key factor in shaping the musical direction for the club. Taking things in his stride Shazz has been putting the crowds at Velvet on Fridays through a journey of soulful, electronic, jacking and electro house to rapturous reception.
Watch Shazz every Friday at Zouk and every Saturday at Aristo.
